What documents do I need to submit when I request a building permit?
A building permit is required any time you erect, construct, enlarge, remodel, alter, repair, move, improve, remove, convert, demolish, or change the type of occupancy of any building, structure or utility. The process to obtain a permit varies depending upon the complexity of the project, as do the specific documents required for review. Specific submittal requirements for various projects are listed on the Building Inspections web page in the right column under “submittal requirements.” The time it takes for a permit application to be reviewed varies depending on the type of work.
Building Guides (Handouts) for typical homeowner projects are available on our website and at the Building Inspection Division to help homeowners through the design and plan review process.
