Who removes the snow and ice from city-maintained sidewalks and trails?

The city's Parks & Forestry Division is responsible for snow removal on over 100 miles of public sidewalks and trails that fall within the ownership and maintenance of the city.

Snow removal operations begin upon the accumulation of 1 inch of snow and continue until all sidewalks and trails are clear or safe for travel. City staff is also responsible for cleaning all sidewalks, patio areas and parking lots of city facilities such as the Carpenter Recreation Center and the Thornton Active Adult Center.

Sidewalks that are adjacent to commercial property are the responsibility of the commercial property owner and not the city.  Many HOAs (homeowner associations) are responsible for sidewalks and trails adjacent to their subdivisions.
