When should a fire flow be requested? How do I schedule a hydrant flow test?

Reasons to preform test:

• To determine water availability for the design of fire sprinkler systems.

• To determine water availability for the design of domestic water systems.

• To evaluate expansion of existing system or modifications to existing system.

Please note that the test data is only valid for one year and it’s highly recommended to request a fire flow once the construction drawings are released and plat is recorded. Only one test is allotted to each development project. Please note an active development or building permit is required before a test will be performed.

To request a hydrant flow test, provide a completed Fire Flow Form to FirePrevention@Thorntonco.gov. Test results may take 7 to 10 business day, depending on the weather and minimum number of hydrants to preform the test.

For all additional questions, please contact the Fire Department Prevention Division at 303-538-7007.
