General Court Questions
Community Service is a sentencing option that may be recommended by a prosecutor and ordered by the judge. Community service is often an option offered to juveniles under the age of 16. Community Service guidelines require the defendant to work a specific number of hours ordered by the judge at any non-profit organization.
Eligible non-profit organizations would include church, school, food bank, shelter, parks/street side cleanup, or an animal shelter. You may do this service for an elderly or disabled person in your neighborhood if they are not related to you. You are responsible for finding your own place to do the work. A Community Service Log is available on the Court's website along with additional information.
