What are the laws in Thornton about firearms and other weapons?
Firearms may not be discharged within the City limits unless it is at a lawfully operating shooting range, or authorized classes or schools.
The carrying of any concealed weapon without a permit is unlawful, as is brandishing any weapon in a manner calculated to alarm another person.
Air guns and slingshots may be discharged inside a private residence in a safe manner with permission of the property owner. Continuous parental supervision is required if under 18 years of age.
It shall be unlawful for any person to possess or to sell any of the following prohibited weapons: brass knuckles, black jacks, booby traps, concealed bladed weapon, gas guns, gravity knife, electronic restraining device, and switchblades. It shall be unlawful for any person to possess on or about his/her person or within his/her immediate reach, any of the following dangerous or deadly weapons: bludgeons, nunchakus, spikes, throwing stars; knives with a blade in excess of 3 1/2 inches; slingshots; artificial knuckles: bow and arrow or cross bow, unless in a private automobile being transported to be used for lawful hunting or sporting events, or being transported to or from sale or repair; firearms or air guns unless in a person's own dwelling, place of business with management approval, or in an automobile being transported for hunting, lawful sporting events, or being transported to or from sale or repair; or being used in conjunction with a legitimate on-duty security service. Violation of this ordinance may result in seizure of the weapon and criminal charges being filed.
