What are the requirements for constructing a garage or shed on my property?

  • Structures under 120 square feet do not require a permit.
  • Structures between 120 square feet and 481 square feet require a building permit.
  • Structures between 481 square feet and 757 square feet require a building permit and a Minor Development Permit.
  • Structures over 757 square feet require a building permit and a Development Permit.

Garages attached to the main existing structure may be thirty-five feet (35’) tall. Garages that are separate from the existing structure may be (sixteen feet) 16’ tall.

Structures over 120 square feet must meet setbacks required for the specific property.

Garages and sheds will need be visually compatible with the existing home, including architecture and materials.
