Arts & Culture is a division of the Thornton Parks, Recreation, and Community Programs Department. The division was established in 2006 to offer year-round programs and community-based events in partnership with other city departments, nonprofit organizations, and regional funders (Adams County Cultural Council, Scientific and Cultural Facilities District-SCFD, and the City of Thornton).
The division creates, publicizes and presents year-round arts education programs (Thornton Arts Academy), quarterly art exhibits (Oz Gallery), a seasonal music series, community cultural events (Juneteenth, Pride, Dino Fest and Dia de los Muertos), public art projects, and archival resources.
The division also provides year-round administrative support for the City Council-appointed Thornton Arts Sciences and Humanities Council (TASHCO) including the board's annual budget, SCFD-granted funded programs, fundraising events, meetings, master plans, and subcommittees.
Arts & Culture is located at the Thornton Arts & Culture Center (TACC) at 9209 Dorothy Blvd. and opened in 2011 as the community hub for performing and visual arts with a gallery and theater space, and city archival storage. The division's adjacent building, the Annex at 9211 Dorothy Blvd., opened in 2021 and houses staff offices plus additional meeting, gallery, and classroom/studio space. TACC is open Tuesday-Friday from 12-5 p.m. and on second Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Annex is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Both facilities are closed on federal and city holidays.
