How is the water quality in the lakes managed?

Parks Programs and Information
The City of Thornton utilizes the services of Water Quality Bio Systems to manage the water quality of various lakes in our park system. These lakes include: Hunters Glen Park, Eastlake III Nature Preserve, Grandview Ponds, Civic Center Park, Marshall Lakes and Sage Creek Park.
The biggest challenge we face with our lakes is the development of filamentous algae. This type of algae bloom grows on the aquatic plants below the surface and breaks loose floating to the surface. Treatment of filamentous algae blooms can affect the fish population so only 1/3 of the lake can be treated at one time.
