How do I file a police report online?
If this is an Emergency, please call 911.
The online reporting system will save time when filing a police report online. When submitting your police report online, an officer will review your online report and, if needed, will contact you for additional information. You will be provided with an official case number once your report is accepted by an officer. Through the Thornton Police Department Online Reporting System you can report non-violent reports such as:
- Damaged Property
- Fraud/Identity Theft
- Graffiti
- Lost Property
- Tampering
- Theft
- Theft from a Vehicle
- Theft of License Plate
- Theft of Motor Vehicle Parts
Filing a police report online should only be made if:
- This is not an Emergency
- This incident occurred within the Thornton City limits
- There are NO known suspects
- You are NOT reporting a violent crime
- NO physical evidence was left by the suspect (For example: screwdriver left behind by the suspect)
- The incident is NOT traffic related
- See the words: "Your online police report has been submitted" showing that your police report is complete and sent to an officer for review.
- You will receive a temporary number when submitting your report. Once the officer approves the report you will receive an official case report number.
- Information to obtain a copy of your report from the police department records unit by calling 720-977-5140.

If you are the victim of identity theft or fraud please get and keep all papers, receipts, cancelled checks, mail from companies, etc. related to this crime. We may contact you to get these items if needed and you should keep copies for your records.

Helpful Tips
- Protect your social security number and only give it out when required by law.
- Avoid mail theft by obtaining a locked mailbox and drop off outgoing mail at the post office or postal mailbox.
- Do not give out personal information or credit card numbers over the phone unless you initiated the call.
- Shred credit card offers and bank statements before you throw them away.
- No bank, auction site or other business should send you an email asking you to enter credit card information, passwords, social security numbers or other personal information. Often these fake emails will contain links to pages that look real but are not. If you suspect you are being directed to a fake site go directly to the company's website by manually typing in the website name and inform them of what has happened.
