How do I learn about the recruitment and employment selection process?

Applications are accepted for open positions only. 

Any of the following can be used to find current employment opportunities available with the city of Thornton:

  • Visit the city of Thornton website at this link: Employment Opportunities
  • Human Resources Office at 9500 Civic Center Drive, Thornton, CO  80229
  • Local cable access Thornton Channel 8
  • Local newspapers, or in specialized journals, newsletters and/or websites
  • Several area municipalities, job service centers, college campuses and local media sources

You may apply for as many positions as you are qualified for.  The minimum requirements are posted on each job announcement for review.  A separate application is required for each position.

Your application must be submitted DURING the posting period for a position and received by the closing date and time of the position. No exceptions will be made. Applications will be accepted for open positions only. The City does not keep applications on file for future openings.

Following the deadline, applications are screened and the qualified applications are forwarded to the appropriate department for their review and selection. This process may take one to three weeks at a minimum. Applicants selected to proceed in the recruitment process will be contacted by either the Hiring Manager or Human Resources.

Testing requirements vary based on the needs of the specific position and/or recruitment.  Testing may include, but is not limited to, typing test, data entry test, ten key test, practical assessments of job related skills, and oral board interview.  Testing procedures for each position are listed on each employment opportunity announcement.  Drug testing and background investigations are conditions of employment for any position with the city of Thornton.
