How do I request a new traffic signal?
Before a traffic signal can be considered for installation, the intersection in question must meet criteria that is identified in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. This document is published by the Federal Highway Administration and has been adopted by the City of Thornton. The criteria that is examined includes, but is not limited to, vehicular traffic volume, pedestrian traffic volume, and crash history. If an intersection meets criteria for a traffic signal, it is prioritized with other intersections awaiting a traffic signal. The intersection with the highest priority is recommended for funding in the next budget year.
To request a study of an intersection for a possible traffic signal, contact Traffic Engineering at 720-977-6490, via email at trafficengineering@ThorntonCO.gov, or submit a service request.
