How do I request a speed limit change?

Category: Speeding

On local residential streets, the speed limit is 25 mph unless otherwise posted.  On arterial and collector streets, the speed limits are established based on traffic engineering studies that include analysis of sight visibility, roadway characteristics, crash history, and traffic speeds.  When speed limits are set reasonably, traffic tends to move at a more uniform speed and there is an increase in safety and fewer crashes.  An unrealistically low speed limit can actually lead to crashes and more speeding violations.  Lowering a speed limit also does not typically impact the driver that has chosen to break the speed limit.

To request a review of an arterial or collector speed limit, contact Traffic Engineering at 720-977-6490 reach out via email at trafficengineering@ThorntonCO.gov, or submit a service request.
