How do I report water waste?

Category: Water Conservation

We appreciate our residents keeping an eye out for water waste. Thornton staff will quickly respond to your reports about water waste on private or city property. We need to know the exact address or closest cross streets (e.g. northeast corner of 120th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard), the nature of the problem (e.g. broken sprinkler head), and the date and time you noticed it. Sending a photo is helpful.

Water waste is defined in the Thornton City Code as the intentional, unintentional, or excessive use of water that is not considered reasonable, prudent or a wise use of water for an authorized purpose, but not limited to: Allowing water to be applied in any manner, rate or quantity such that the water is allowed to pool or flow across the ground or into any drainage way, such as gutters, streets, sidewalks, alleys or storm drains is prohibited. Incidental runoff from an irrigation system operated in a reasonable and prudent manner is not considered water waste.

You may call the Water Resources Division at 720-977-6600 or email water@thorntonwater.com to report an issue.
