How do I report water waste?
We appreciate our residents keeping an eye out for water waste. You can trust that Thornton staff will always respond promptly to your reports about water waste on private or city property.
We need to know the exact address or closest cross streets (e.g., northeast corner of 120th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard), the nature of the problem (e.g., broken sprinkler head), and the date and time you noticed it. Sending a photo is helpful.
Water waste is a concern that we all share in the Thornton community. It is defined in the Thornton City Code as the intentional, unintentional, or excessive use of water that is not considered reasonable, prudent, or wise use of water for an authorized purpose. This includes actions such as allowing water to be applied in any manner, rate, or quantity that leads to pooling or flowing across the ground or into any drainage way, such as gutters, streets, sidewalks, alleys, or storm drains.
We all have a collective responsibility to play in preventing this. Incidental runoff from an irrigation system operated reasonably and prudently is not considered water waste.
If you notice any water waste, please don't hesitate to report it. You can enter it into My Thornton, call the Water Efficiency Team at 720-977-6600, or email us to make a report.
Your quick action can help us conserve water and maintain a sustainable community.
