Can I have a BBQ grill on an apartment balcony?

The Thornton City Council has adopted the 2021 International Fire Code (IFC) as the fire code for the City of Thornton. The IFC is adopted with amendments to tailor it to local needs of the community. The amendments include deletion of the IFC section which prohibits BBQ grills on balconies. Therefore, grills are allowed on apartment balconies. However, propane tanks cannot be stored inside apartments.
The Thornton Fire Department encourages you to check with your management company as they have the authority to not allow BBQ grills on the property.
