What if I have questions about a violation notice I received?
Code officers issue a variety of different notices regarding conditions on private property. The notices include specific information about any violations, along with an expected compliance date.
If you receive a notice in the mail or on your door and have questions or need more time for compliance, we encourage you to contact the code officer immediately. You can also schedule a time for the code officer to meet you at your property so that he/she can explain what needs to be done to bring the property into compliance.
The code officer will re-inspect your property after the expected compliance date has passed. If the violation has not been corrected and you have not made arrangements for additional time, the case may progress to the next step, which could be a hearing or a summons to appear in court. The goal is compliance, and we are willing to work with a resident or business owner to resolve the issue. Submit a My Thornton request to send a message to a code compliance officer or call 303-538-7517.
