Can I have an open burn?

Open burning is classified as an outdoor fire where wood or any other combustible materials are burned for agricultural, training, entertainment, or other purposes. This includes fire pits, chimenea, and outdoor fireplaces. Currently, open burning is allowed at single family homes, duplexes, and townhomes without a permit as long as certain regulations are met. All other open burning requires a permit from the Thornton Fire Department. Please visit the Fire Department page under the Fire Restrictions section for up to date burning restrictions and information on all city codes.
